Weather conditions will be a major factor in any plan to visit Alghero. The Island of Sardinia, boasting the most sunshine hours of any region in Italy, experiences a typical mediterranean climate with hot dry summers and cool wet winters. Alghero, with its location in the North West, is generally not as dry as the south, receiving more rain mainly in the months of November and December. January is an interesting time to visit as the days can be pleasantly warm and dry although the number of daylight hours are a limiting factor. Some of the best weather can be found during the so called shoulder seasons. Springtime sees the surrounding countryside in bloom whilst autumn brings attractive changes in colour. For beach lovers the summer brings soaring temperatures and comfortable bathing between the end of May and the end of September. It should be noted that August can be oppressively hot for those used to temperate climates and the hot weather can linger on through to the end of September. These weather charts should help in making an informed choice on when to visit Alghero.
